Best of Banff: The Grizzly House
If you are anywhere within the Banff area, or even a 2-hour radius as I was, get yourself to The Grizzly House as quickly as humanly possible. After an amazing day of hiking and hot-springs, my already-perfect day in Banff concluded at the Grizzly House on the patio. Do not make the same mistake I almost did and order anything other than the complete fondue dinner. A four-course meal, three of which being various types of fondue, The Grizzly House has it down to an art. The perfect amount of food came with every course, the service was impeccable, the meal was potentially the best of my entire life. For your first course, you have the choice of a soup or salad - both John and I ordered the salad which was simple and good. The second course stepped it up a notch - NeuchΓ’tel two-cheese fondue with white wine, Kirsch and roasted garlic served with fresh baguette. For our main courses we ordered the Hunter Dinner, which came with Buffalo, Wild Boar and Venison and the Beef and Lobster fondue. We opted for a hot rock rather than the oil fondue to keep things relatively healthy... Ha! The meat was served with a selection of six specialty sauces, my favourites being the spicy tomato, horseradish glaze and garlic butter (for the lobster but also used to keep the meat from sticking to the rock!). For our fourth and final course, dessert was a Toblerone fondue served with fresh fruit and cookies. We sat on the patio to take advantage of the warm night but but with the cozy and darkly lit chalet-look, it would be the perfect spot to head to in the winter after a day on the slopes as well!
